Las Piñas City: Southern Metro Manila's Historic Corridor

With a rich history that dates back to pre-colonial times, Las Piñas is known as the site of many of the events that have shaped the country's destiny. From its beginnings as a salt-making and fishing community, Las Piñas is now famed for its historic and cultural corridor, tourist attractions, and modern industries and businesses, including vehicle factories, shopping malls, and business parks.

From Bamboo to Buildings

Once named "Las Peñas" after the large boulders that lined its Manila Bay coast, the old town of Las Piñas is known for the Bamboo Organ, the largest of its kind in the entire world. Tourists and devotees of St. Joseph alike flock to Las Piñas yearly for a music festival centered on the centuries-old musical instrument, housed in St. Joseph Parish Church.

Las Piñas also has a lot of buildings marked as Cultural Properties of the Philippines, including old houses made from stone and wood, a museum of the town's history, and the old salt pans. More modern attractions include SM Southmall, one of the largest shopping malls in the Philippines, featuring an ice skating rink; the Sarao Motors factory, the first manufacturer of the country's iconic jeepneys, and Robinsons Place Las Piñas, the city's newest shopping mall.

Residents commuting to and from Las Piñas are served by a fleet of jeepneys, buses, and shuttles going to many points of southern Metro Manila and Cavite. The city is bisected by the Alabang-Zapote Road, connecting it to the cities of Muntinlupa and Bacoor.
