Tagaytay City – Fun in the Clouds

Tagaytay City has always been a tourist hotspot since it was incorporated in 1938. Boasting an amazing view of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano, Tagaytay's proximity to Metro Manila has made it one of the top choices for weekend getaways. Its elevation has also made it a favorite refuge for people and families seeking to escape the lowlands' summer heat. As a result, entertainment and lodging options are aplenty in the city.

City on a Caldera

Tagaytay Ridge, where Tagaytay City is located, was actually the caldera (mouth) of a large volcano that dominated Southern Luzon in prehistoric times. It rises steeply from Taal Lake, which was formerly part of Balayan Bay. Through the centuries, volcanic activity from Taal Volcano gradually blocked the lake's access to the sea; as a result, several towns had to be relocated.

High up on Tagaytay Ridge, locals and foreigners alike noticed the healthful, temperate weather that pervaded the environment. Soon, churches, camps, and houses were built, and highways connected Tagaytay to the rest of Southern Luzon, including Manila. Early tourist attractions in Tagaytay City included the Picnic Grove and the People's Park in the Sky, while lowland activities included guided horseback tours to Taal Volcano itself.

Now, visitors and long-time residents have more entertainment options to choose from. Sky Ranch, a new amusement park, offers exciting rides for the entire family. You can also try your luck at the Casino Filipino Tagaytay right across the Taal Vista Hotel. And, if you're in the mood for aquatic adventure, the Taal Lake Yacht Club hosts the country's premier Hobie Cat fleet.
