Millennials, or those born during the early 80s until the early 2000s, are now at the age where they’re ready to live on their own and invest on their first home. Understandably, the things that they’re looking for in a property are different compared to the generations before them. Here are seven of their must-haves:
1. An open space layout
Instead of walls or divisions that compartmentalize a home into different sections, millennials prefer an open space floor plan because it allows them and their guests to move freely from one area to another.
2. Connectivity
For these tech-savvy millennials, a home with a poor mobile phone signal can be a deal-breaker. The home should also have access to a reliable internet services provider.
Indeed, they want to maintain their connectivity since they do a lot of activities online. Millennials now go online to shop for just about anything, and that includes possible property investments.
3. An accessible location
Unlike their parents, millennials are living at a time when getting from one place to another is not as easy as it used to be. They have to deal with things like massive traffic jams, expensive parking fees, unreliable public transportation, and high gasoline prices, among others.
As a result, millennials want a home that is close to where they work and more convenient transportation options.
4. Flexible payment terms
Millennials work with limited budgets and are looking for properties that can accommodate what they can afford to commit at the moment.
5. Space for a home office
Thanks to technology, a 9-to-5 job in the office is no longer the only employment option available.
Many millennials are going the freelance route, accepting jobs from both local and overseas clients and opting to work from home. Along with a fast and reliable internet connection, an area for a possible home office is a must.
6. An updated kitchen and bathroom
A huge chunk of a millennial’s home budget will be allotted for amortizations, utilities, furnishings, and other essentials. They wouldn’t be able to afford upgrades any upgrades anytime soon so a modern kitchen (which could also serve as their dining area) and bathroom are major plus factors.
7. Lifestyle amenities
Millennials work hard and play harder. They want to live in homes that have access to fitness and recreational facilities like a gym, pool, cafes, and even retail shops within the immediate vicinity.
