Angeles City – Luzon's Future Green City

A Green Spot in a Sea of Gray

The story of Angeles City is one of persistence and perseverance. As the site of a former U.S. Air Force base, it was a favorite R&R spot for the servicemen stationed there, and it developed an unsavory reputation. However, the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo forced U.S. personnel and officers to move out, leaving behind infrastructure that was heavily damaged and barely usable.

Since then, Angelenos worked hard to get their city back. Thanks to its strategic location beside national highways, it became one of Pampanga province's trade centers. The opening of the Clark International Airport sped up the development of Angeles City and the surrounding areas, turning it into a transportation and logistics hub for Southeast Asia. Mall developers lost no time in building SM City Clark, Marquee Mall, and Robinson's Place Angeles, which in turn have also contributed to the region's economy.

Today, very little remains of Angeles City's checkered past, except for a few remnants of Spanish and American rule. The city is now known as the future site of Clark Green City, a real-estate development that aims to transform the metropolis into a future-ready business and educational district.
