Silang: Life on the Slopes

With its cool and energizing climate, the municipality of Silang in Cavite is fast becoming an attractive option for families who want to raise their children in a healthy environment. Situated on the slopes leading to Tagaytay Ridge, Silang is criss-crossed by ravines, rivers, and gorges, giving it a rugged appeal that makes for excellent views of nature.

Peace and Quiet

Unlike most of Cavite Province, Silang was not part of any of the religious orders' haciendas during the Spanish colonial period. Instead, it was a privately-owned plantation, with crops such as coconut, coffee, corn, and fruits. It was also partly ranch land, with livestock farmers taking advantage of the abundance of grass on the sloping plains.

Today, Silang retains much of that rural character. Agriculture still dominates the economy, with most of the municipality's farm products being sold in Metro Manila and beyond. However, it is also slowly being turned into a suburb of Metro Manila; the land value has soared in real estate developments such as Nuvali, which spans the towns of Calamba, Silang, and Santa Rosa.

Silang is also a conduit between Metro Manila and the city of Tagaytay, and by extension, the rest of Southern Luzon. While there is only one large shopping mall in the municipality, the urban area has all the features of a modern commercial district, such as convenience stores, resorts, and hotels. These serve tourists and locals alike, many of which live in Silang's exclusive subdivisions. Private schools such as St. Scholastica's College-Westgrove, Rogationist College, the Adventist University of the Philippines, and Far Eastern University offer excellent educational options for children and adults alike.

Buying a House in Silang

Because Silang is less than two hours away from Metro Manila via the Southern Luzon Expressway, its residential subdivisions are populated by top executives of many of the country's largest companies. These communities include South Forbes Villas, Ayala Westgrove Heights, MetroGate Silang, Ponderosa Leisure Farm, and Chateaux De Paris. Prices range from P3.435 million to P35 million, making houses in Silang more affordable than those found in Metro Manila's exclusive villages.
