Las Piñas City: Country Living on the Shore

Located on the shore of Manila Bay, Las Piñas City serves as the capital's gateway to Cavite and Laguna provinces. The city itself is home to historic districts, exclusive private subdivisions, and some of the country's largest shopping malls. Because of its location, living in Las Piñas City carries the advantages of country living while promising easy access to modern-day necessities.

Home of History

Las Piñas City has embraced its role in shaping the country's history. Salt, its main product, was used to preserve food before refrigeration became available. The wealth of the old town was demonstrated in its old houses, the massive church with its world-famous Bamboo Organ, and the town dam that was used to irrigate the extensive rice fields that dotted the landscape. Its strategic location along the Zapote river, however, made it a major battlefield during the wars for independence against Spain and the United States.

Since then, the old bridge had been restored and repurposed into a pedestrian walkway. Reminders of the town's historic past are also visible near the river, including the Central Elementary School, the original municipal hospital, and the Historical and Cultural Museum. Just a few kilometers away, however, modern malls, large educational institutions, and a wide avenue reminds passersby that they now live in the 21st century.

These modern facilities include the Manuela Mall, the University of Perpetual Help and its teaching hospital; Southville International School, and the Alabang-Zapote Road, which has been widened over the decades to accommodate the rising volume of vehicular traffic.
