Binondo is perhaps one of the busiest districts in the whole of Metro Manila. But compared to the modernity central business districts have brought into the metropolis, Binondo remains to be one of Manila’s safeguards when it comes to historical preservation.

However, Binondo’s face is slowly catching up with the times. From our last visit, we are seeing modern developments fitting in nicely with the majestic remnants of the past. Our walking tour led to the discovery that the oldest Chinatown in the world is a perfect place to live, work, play, and learn.

A “Noble Place” in the Middle of Manila

Property giant Megaworld is set to complete a 47-storey, all-glass residential development at the very heart of Binondo. Noble Place, once completed in 2017, will be overlooking Binondo and many of Manila’s historic sites including Intramuros, Rizal Park, and Malacañang Palace.

Made of steel reinforced with high-grade concrete and wrap aesthetically with glass, the architecture of Noble Place by Megaworld is a stark, but nice contrast to the other buildings in the area.

For example, the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank Corporation Building at the corner of San Gabriel and Muelle de la Industria streets is inspired by Neo-Classical architecture. The El Hogar Building along Juan Luna Street is in Beaux Arts architecture. The architecture of the Uy-Chaco Building along Cervantes Street is in the Art Noveau style. The Roman Santos Building across from Plaza Lacson has Greco-Roman influences. The 15th century Binondo Church was designed with Colonial and Baroque styles in mind.

Real Estate Yin and Yang

The Chinese symbol and concept of yin and yang represent many things to people. But to residents in Binondo, the traditional infrastructure and modern real estate developments fit in harmoniously to their benefit simply because it created supportive spaces that bring residents’ lives back into harmony as well.

Residents who would be making Noble Place their future home will expect magnificent views of the Manila Bay, especially at sunset. Amenities include a sky garden, infinity pool, gym with sauna and spa, game room, children’s playground and a landscaped garden.

The development of Noble Place was also extended to public places and services to ensure its residents that they can both enjoy the past and the present. Megaworld has extended its commitment to actively rehabilitate a major street in Chinatown, the Plaza Cervantes.
